Until 2018, the GNS had awarded an annual special prize of 1,000 Euro for a neuroscience project within the framework of the federal competition "Jugendforscht." The prize was suspended in 2019 due to disagreements between the board of the GNS and leaders of Jugendforscht on the topic of animal experimentation.
In addition to a monetary prize, award recipients were invited to the Göttingen Meeting and received a free subscription to Neuroforum for one year.
